For those of you needing some ideas for how to make money in a recession, I give to you some product ideas I have seen a need for (all I ask is for 10% of all profits.):
1. Small Smoke Detectors - In the world of micro it is unimaginable to me that smoke detectors need to still be so big and so ugly.
2. Disposable Sippy Cups - I'm not talking about the ones they say you can toss but you never do because they still cost a fair amount and because they last for a while. I'm talking about why doesn't Solo make a sippy lid for the cups they already make, similar to coffee cup lids, that is truly disposable. These would be a big winner at birthday parties and family get-togethers.
3. Electronic Leash - Why are there only radio fences that keep dogs within a loop instead of close to a point. You should be able to carry an item, or stake it, and the dog would have to stay within a set distance or start getting warning beeps and then shocked as they stray wayward. Similarly, this would be great for kids, though I image you would have to drop the shock feature and just have an alarm go off to say that your kid, while wearing the communicating bracelet, wandered further than 100 feet from the picnic area for instance.
4. Pint Koozie - Pint ice cream exists to be eaten out of the container, so why isn't it, or for that matter, all, ice cream sold in something like Styrofoam instead of cardboard. But, the real money making idea here, which could be done easily by a stay at home mom with Ebay access, is to make pint Koozies similar to those for canned drinks.
5. Ink Jet Printable Bumper Stickers
I have done zero research as to whether any of these ideas already exist, but I do know that they at least do not have a noticeable market presence.
