Exodus 8: 1-4 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Go in to Pharaoh and say to him, ‘Thus says the Lord, “Let my people go, that they may serve me. But if you refuse to let them go, behold, I will plague all your country with frogs. The Nile shall swarm with frogs that shall come up into your house and into your bedroom and on your bed and into the houses of your servants and your people, and into your ovens and your kneading bowls. The frogs shall come up on you and on your people and on all your servants.”’”
Movies from my teenage years no longer seem all that funny anymore to me. If it's humor from my parents' generation, forget about it, it's way too dated. Or go back even further, the Shakespearean humor my English Lit teacher took 5 minutes to explain to the class, at best it generated a forced smile.
Frogs. Really? It's straight from a Mad Libs story. Of all the things to rain down when you're trying to set people free. Or, maybe that's not bad for 3,500-year-old humor.
I'd never heard someone tie it to such a concrete, immediately understandable analogy of us not liking even very recent generations' humor.
