Matty brought along a house favorite of his to our weekend camping trip and I deemed it blog worthy considering how well it fared against the Dixie cups and campfire smoke.
I have had White Oak only a handful of times and have never been disappointed. This particular bottle was a 2005 Cabernet, but had a mature taste-shape becoming of wines many years its senior. It is a 90/7/3 Cab-Merlot-Franc with a dirty maroon hue and fast legs, or at least so it seemed in my plastic goblet. My main take-away was that the cajoled tannins come across pleasantly dusty; think grapes with a hazy skin must stolen fresh from the vine, not about your grandma's window blinds. The wine is flavor-plump, actually more than I prefer, with dried dark fruits tightly packaged and neatly delivered, much like a gift basket. Appropriately enough, it could at worse be faulted for lacking personality.
